Scottish Bakers has curated an interactive online resource to help celebrate the people, craft, and communities behind some of Scotland’s favourite bakeries.

Dubbed The Ultimate Scottish Bakers Trail 2026 and available on the trade body’s website, it serves as an immersive storytelling hub allowing users to explore bakery locations across the region. There are exclusive video interviews with the owners themselves, conducted by Scottish food and drink journalists Julia Bryce and Rosalind Erskine.

Among the seven featured businesses are Harry Gow Bakery and Maclean’s Highland Bakery in the Highlands, to Aberdeen-based The Bread Guy Bakery, Clarks Bakery in Dundee, Fife-based Carr’s Flour Mills, Babyfaced Baker in Edinburgh, and Francis The Bakers down in Dumfriesshire. The trail aims to showcase Scotland’s baking industry icons – large-scale manufacturers who combine traditional techniques with modern technology to produce quality bakes – as well as Local Heroes, including artisan bakery SMEs said to be the heart of communities.

A launch event was held at Carr’s Flour Mills headquarters in Kirkcaldy, which is marking its 200th anniversary this year.

“Scotland has an extraordinary baking industry, built on generations of skill, innovation and pride,” commented Scottish Bakers CEO Leslie Cameron. “We want people to see the passion, talent, and hard work that exists in bakeries right across the country. Behind every loaf, pastry and biscuit is a baker who has risen early, honed their craft and dedicated themselves to providing the best bakes for their community.”

Cameron noted how the campaign also taps into the growing trend of food tourism, with travellers increasingly seeking authentic culinary experiences when visiting new destinations. “Insights from VisitScotland highlight the rise of so-called ‘scran seekers’, visitors who use social media and food creators to discover local produce and hidden culinary gems,” added the CEO.

In addition to representing, supporting, and promoting the region’s bakery sector, Scottish Bakers manages the Scottish Baker of the Year Awards – the most recent edition of which was won by Inverness-based Harry Gow – as well as the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards, on pause for this year but returning in 2027.
