Stacey’s Bakery has raised £500 for the Royal British Legion by selling poppy cupcakes.
Cake sales through its shops in Ilkeston, Heanor and Eastwood accounted for £350, while £150 was from donations.
The cupcakes were created to raise funds for the armed forces through the annual Poppy Appeal, and were sold for £1 each in the run-up to Remembrance Day on 12 November.
“We were delighted to support such a great cause and hope to continue to raise funds for the legion in the future by getting involved with its work in the town,” said Stacey’s Bakery owner David Stacey.
The funds were presented to Royal British Legion community fundraiser Lily Clements, who said the charity was grateful to Stacey’s Bakery.
“Their donation will help support today’s armed forces community through hardships, injury and bereavements,” said Clements. “The work of the legion is as relevant and vital today as it was in the aftermath of the First World War when the charity was founded.”
Stacey’s Bakery recently announced it will supply a variety of its baked goods to restaurant chain George’s Kitchen.
