Pret A Manger is launching a more spacious shop format featuring a new menu that includes made-to-order bakery items such as hot ciabattas, sourdough toasties, and stuffed croissants.

Trialling at its new Maidenhead and Broughty Ferry sites from this month, the family-friendly format is designed to adapt the brand to suit different working patterns and lifestyles as it continues its UK estate expansion.

It recently hit its 500-shop milestone across the country with 82% of the new opening since January 2023 being outside of London. Around half of Pret’s UK estate is currently located in the capital, while it has grown internationally to operate 700 stores spanning 21 markets including opening its first shop in South Africa earlier this year.

For its new shop format, Pret highlighted a departure from its usual grab-and-go range of sandwiches, baguettes, and salads, which are freshly made in-store and displayed on refrigerated shelves. Instead, the latest layout accommodates a longer counter where customers can watch their dishes being made, as well as additional seating space and a Little Stars Café play area for young children.

An exclusive menu that is more attuned to relaxed, dine-in eating habits has been created, to be served on full porcelain crockery. This includes more hot options like the Meatball & Red Pepper Tapenade Ciabatta Sub and Caprese Melt Sourdough Toastie, along with new breakfast items such as Cinnamon Butter & Banana Sourdough Toast and savoury croissants. There’s an expansive sweet treats bakery range too, including tarts and cakes – see full list below.

Grab-and-go food and drink options will still be offered via refrigerated units, while Pret’s baristas will also serve a lightly roasted organic coffee blend exclusive to the new shops in addition to the standard selection of hot and cold drinks.

“Throughout the past five years, we’ve made it a priority to bring Pret to more people, whether you’re a city worker commuting to the office, a parent juggling work and family life, or someone catching up with friends,” commented Clare Clough, Pret’s managing director for the UK & Europe.

“Now, we’re taking that further, making Pret a destination for customers in a bit less of a rush who want a comfortable space to enjoy delicious food and spend time with family and friends. Our teams have been hard at work making sure everything from the shop design to the unique menu items have been carefully thought through and we can’t wait to see how our customers respond,” she added.

The new Broughty Ferry shop near Dundee is opening tomorrow (10 June) and offers seating for 78 covers. It will be run by Pret’s franchise partner Joup Group, which helped expand the brand’s estate in Scotland with six new locations last year. Meanwhile, the new Maidenhead site opens on 21 June with 87 seats for indoor and outdoor dining, and will be operated by franchise partner Hala Group.

Pret recently rolled out filled baguettes, salads, and platters as part of its spring menu for 2025.
