Tesco has issued a recall notice for one of its own-label mince pies due to a potential risk of them containing pieces of dried glue.

The retailer said it was taking the precautionary measure to recall six packs of Tesco Finest All Butter Pastry Mince Pies after identifying the possible presence of small pieces of dried glue originating from the packaging, which makes them unsafe to eat.

It noted that the contamination only affected a small number of packs with specific best before dates of 4 October 2024, 26 October 2024, 2 November 2024, and 10/11/24.

“If you have bought one of these products, you can return it to your local store for a full refund,” stated a Tesco spokesperson, adding that a receipt was not required.

No action was needed should a Tesco customer have already eaten any of the affected mince pies unless they felt unwell, in which case they were advised to contact their GP as normal.

Other mince pies in Tesco’s range, or any other products, were not affected, confirmed the retailer.

“The quality of our products is our number one priority and we immediately began an investigation with our supplier to understand what happened. We’re sorry for the inconvenience,” commented the Tesco spokesperson.

Tesco was the first among the UK’s major supermarkets to unwrap its Christmas range for 2024. Various different mince pie lines are featured among its new festive bakery offerings including four options under its premium tier Tesco Finest range – All Butter Pastry Mince Pies (rsp: £3 for a six-pack), Frangipane Mince Pies (£3.50 / four-pack), Luxurious Fruity Mince Pies (£3.50 / four-pack), and All Butter Pastry Mini Mince Pies (£3.50 / nine-pack).

There’s also mince pies topped with either crumble, lattice puff pastry, or soft icing, as well as a vegan-friendly choice on Tesco’s Plant Chef range.

Several other businesses have issued bakery recalls this year including for Daylesford Organic’s crispbreads and savoury biscuits due to the possible presence of moth larvae, and Signature Flatbread’s tortilla wraps due to the possible presence of metal from suspected tampering.

There were also recalls from Bread Spread’s and The Real Wrap Co’s ready-to-eat products due to a risk of listeria, as well as Samworth Brothers, Greencore and This’ food-to-go bakery items due to possible E. coli contamination.
