Compleat Foodservice has invested £600k in a new cookie production line at its Crewe site as it looks to tap into demand for premium sweet treats.
The business, which is part of Compleat Food Group, already produces cookies for some of the UK’s biggest QSR brands and retailers but said the new line will enable it to expand its offering while increasing overall output by more than 30%.
Compleat noted that it has already seen an increase in demand for premium products as consumers continue to seek out more indulgent, higher-quality sweet treats. As such, the manufacturer is forecasting value increase of 28% over the next year.
The line supports larger format and filled cookies, as well as products featuring a wider variety of inclusions such as large chocolate chunks and confectionery pieces, while maintaining a soft, chewy texture. It also provides greater flexibility across formats, sizes and recipes, which Compleat Foodservice said will allow it to develop more bespoke, premium offerings for customers at speed and scale, while supporting greater menu differentiation to competitors.

Over the past year there has been an influx of topped and filled cookies onto the market. These included M&S’ Chunked N’ Loaded in-store bakery cookies which were rolled out last summer, as well as the recently launched loaded cookies at Waitrose with flavours including Blueberry Cheesecake and Pistachio & Raspberry. Sandwich cookies in on-trend flavours remain a staple of Costa’s menu of late, with Co-op also revamping its cookie range with Irresistible Matcha Strawberry & White Chocolate Cookies for summer 2026.
“As specialists in sweet bakery, we’re seeing significant demand for more premium, indulgent and visually impactful cookies,” said Helen Bowyer, commercial director at Compleat Foodservice.
“Our customers are looking for support to bring these higher-quality products to market, and this investment allows us to do exactly that, enhancing both our capability and capacity to produce cookies that deliver on exceptional taste, texture and appearance.”
She added that it complements the firm’s existing offering while “continuing to evolve in line with consumer trends and supporting our wider growth strategy in sweet bakery”.
