Pasty company Proper Cornish is to open its new £6.5m factory in Bodmin this June.
Construction on the new site began in late 2013 and it will span 72,000sq ft. The company will also retain its existing 27,000sq ft site, which will be modernised and maintained for continuity of supply.
Turnover at Proper Cornish is up 22% year-on-year. David Jeffs, sales director, told British Baker: “We are looking at a further 18% growth in 2015 and the same for 2016. We have rearranged the team to make sure we can sustain growth.
Last week the company announced the joint appointments of Kevin Pugsley as senior commercial manager and David Willcocks as commercial manager. They are targeted with driving sales across foodservice and wholesale outlets and growing the company’s £13.4m turnover, respectively.
Chris Pauling, co-founder and managing director, said: “The strategic expansion of the team reflects the business’ continued expansion and ambitious growth plans. The company has been bolstered by a successful 2014, and continues to specialise and innovate within the sector.
“We’re pleased to have Kevin and David on board to help strengthen our commercial support, as well as building the company’s industry expertise and the quality of service we offer our customers.”
Proper Cornish has just launched a range of empanadas in spicy beef, chicken, and vegetable varieties, as well as a chorizo sausage roll.
