Online artisan brownie business Tarte & Berry is to open its first bakery in response to overwhelming demand.
The Yorkshire-based company has invested in its first premises in a bid to increase production and secure a growing roster of retail clients. It currently sells a range of brownies online to individuals and retailers, and makes up to 4,000 brownies a week, all from the kitchen at home.
Since its inception one-and-a-half years ago, production has increased fourfold. The brainchild of sisters Jane and Lucy Batham, its treats have received a BBC Good Food Show Award, a Women in Business award from entrepreneur Jacqueline Gold CBE and a Small Business Award from Dragons’ Den Theo Paphitis.
Jane said: “During our first 12 months Tarte & Berry was home-based. There were brownies everywhere - trays and trays of cake, brownies and caramel lined our kitchen and living room.
“As demand for our treats continued, our home was completely taken over by brownies and we were carrying 25kg bags of caster sugar and flour up and down the stairs to our flat. This production unit is the next and necessary step in growing our dream business, producing the yummiest treats available.”
Their best-selling products are salted caramel brownies, triple chocolate brownies, and raspberry and almond Bakewells, which all come in tray bakes of 32.
