All the major four traditional Christmas desserts enjoyed significant growth in both volume and value sales over the 2014/2015 festive period.

In figures collated for British Baker by Kantar Worldpanel for the four weeks to 4 January 2015, the biggest supermarket winner was Christmas cake. It boasted spend up by 16.2% on the same period in 2013/2014 from £36m to more than £40m with volume up 14% – making it the most popular traditional dessert of this Christmas season.

The dessert to place second-highest in increased spend this year was children’s favourite the chocolate Yule log. Value was up by 13.6% from £8.5m to almost £10m, though volume increase was up by just 8%.

Stollen cake was another festive dessert to enjoy an increase in spend of 12.1% from £2.5m to £2.7m, with volume sales also up by 13.1%.

As expected, mince pies remained popular with an even increase across volume and value of 10%, equating to a total spend of almost £4m.
