Two-site artisan cafe and wholesaler Foxcroft & Ginger is donating leftover food to a homelessness charity and helping to cut down on food waste.
The total cost of wasted food amounts to £200 a year per person, so by donating unsold goods, Foxcroft & Ginger aims to get its wasted food to people who need it - which also benefits the environment.
Homelessness charity the Whitechapel Mission, which is facilitating the donations, is volunteer-led and has been helping Londoners help the homeless since 1876. Each day they provide food, washing facilities and clothes for around 300 people.
Around four million tonnes of unused food is thrown away across the UK annually and one million of that is unopened food.
Foxcroft & Ginger is a husband and wife company, providing a range of handmade baked goods such as cakes, brunches, sourdough pizzas and high-end coffee.
