Bright Blue Foods sets sight on £100m in sales

Cake firm Bright Blue Foods has said it will target £100m in sales in the next four years, after investing £2m in its Blackburn bakery.

According to British Baker’s sister site, FoodManufacture.co.uk, the firm will focus on making retailers’ own-label cakes.

This comes after it was announced last week that it had stuck a deal with Aunt Bessie’s to expand its ambient cake category.

Stephen Crossley, chief executive of the cake company, told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “We are 95% own-label. We have significant partnerships with Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Marks & Spencer, and a growing relationship with Aldi and Lidl. But we see a big opportunity to work with a small number of high-quality brands.

“We have a plan to grow the branded business to 20% of total sales over the next three to four years, driven by our relationship with Aunt Bessie’s and Mars.”

Bright Blue Foods makes Mars-branded cakes under licence, including the M&Ms and Malteaser cake lines.

Bright Blue Foods, formerly owned by the McCambridge Group, is a major supplier to UK retailers. It claims to bake nearly one in every 12 packaged cakes bought in supermarkets.
