Our second Masterclass video took us to the small village of Staveley, Kendal, in the Lake District. Patrick Moore, owner and founder of More? The Artisan Bakery, talks us through how to make a multiple grain and beer bread.

In the video, Moore explains that the beer used in the recipe comes from the Hawskhead Brewery next door to the bakery. According to the baker, the bread marries well with all types of cheeses, and is a suitable accompaniment to any tomato based soup, stew or casserole. He also suggests trying the bread with barbequed fish.

Despite not being the cheapest bread to product due to the high content of quality beer and no water, More finds that customers are happy to pay a higher price for a premium product.

Other beers could be used, but Moore reckons it just wouldn’t taste as good.

This year the bakery recently received three Gold stars for its Lakeland treacle breads at the Great Taste Awards 2013. It also won two Gold stars for its Wild English White Sourdough and Monty’s Revenge Bloomer: Montgomery cheddar and whole garlic cloves wrapped in a Sourdough.
