A young baking prodigy has been awarded the Freedom of the Worshipful Company of Bakers after graduating with the highest marks in her class.

Vanessa Brewster, top of her London South Bank University’s National Bakery School class, could now be granted Freedom of the City of London as a result of her culinary skills.

Brewster graduated this month with first-class honours in the school’s Baking Technology Management BSc, awarded at a ceremony at London’s Guildhall. She said: “Becoming a Freeman is going to be an exciting experience. Everyone was so welcoming and the opportunities that will arise from it will be so special.

“I need to thank everyone at the National Bakery School who has helped me along my way. I will never forget this is where it all started for me.”

London South Bank University’s National Bakery School, founded in 1894, is one of the oldest in the world and has an excellent reputation.
