Derby-based Birds Bakery has expanded its delivery network to cover the whole of the UK with the launch of a new online shop.
The country-wide postal offering complements the chain’s online home delivery operation, which operates within a 15-mile radius of its Derby bakery, and expands upon the firm’s previous regional postal delivery services.
“We have become a household name in the East Midlands, so it only felt right to expand our offering to give people across the country a chance to try our range of handcrafted sweet and savoury products,” said Mike Holling, sales and marketing director at Birds Bakery.
“Following the success of our home delivery and postal services, we wanted to launch a new hub where our existing and new customers could purchase all their favourite products,” he added.
The new online shop and UK-wide delivery have been launched to coincide with the rolling out of the bakery’s festive range, featuring items such as pork pies, mince pies, chocolate treats and gift packs. Birds Bakery expects to sell at least 375,000 mince pies in the run up to Christmas through its shops and online, which represents an increase of 20% on last year.
“It is a great time of year for us and our teams are all fully prepared to ensure our customers receive their usual high level of service and delicious products,” Holling said. “Our mission has always been to provide customers with the highest quality of cakes, pork pies and savouries, with a friendly and reliable service – and this has been reflected in our new online shop.”
The new service offers free postage on orders over £50, with DPD postage priced at £7.50 and standard Royal Mail £3.95.
Birds Bakery, which was founded in 1919, operates across 62 stores across the East Midlands. Last month the company triumphed at the Baking Industry Awards 2021 by winning the trophy for Bakery Retailer of the Year.
