Sainsbury’s has unveiled a new online service for customers to order bespoke products that suit any type of gathering at home.
The ‘Occasions by Sainsbury’s’ service is aimed at taking the hassle out of hosting, with items available via delivery or collection during a regular shop. It has been integrated into the retailer’s grocery website and replaces the previous ‘Food To Order’ microsite.
It currently has nearly 60 products listed, with seasonal lines like summertime Pina Colada Inspired Cheesecake sitting alongside permanent year-round items such as showstopper birthday cakes and larger cakes for big celebrations, tea-time delights, and a host of nibbles and sides. Among the baked goods on offer are platters of sandwiches, wraps, filled focaccia, bagels, sausage rolls, mini vol au vent, smoked salmon-topped blinis, pizza, brownies, and cupcakes.
Lead times for food orders are between four and seven days. Sainsbury’s said it would continue to add to the Occasions line-up to bring it up to around 200 different products by the end of the year, with over half to be brand new.
“At Sainsbury’s, our ambition is to be customers’ first choice for food,” commented Rhian Bartlett, chief commercial officer at Sainsbury’s. “We know that our customers lead busy lives, with many citing a lack of time as a barrier to hosting and we’re here to make the precious time spent together as easy as possible when it comes to entertaining.”
At the same time, the retailer has launched an online-exclusive butcher service offering specialist and premium cuts of meat. It has also begun a partnership with Sound Seafood to sell wild-caught British fish and seafood.
Sainsbury’s rolled out a raft of new summertime products a few months back under its Taste the Difference premium tier, including the likes of Corn & Jalapeno Flatbreads, Nduja Chicken Caeser Wrap, Coffee & Mascarpone Tart, and Passionfruit, Raspberry & Pistachio Pavlova. Other retailers launching summer ranges include Tesco and Co-op, while M&S recently saw it new limited edition Strawberries & Cream Sandwich go viral and sell out at several stores.
