Greggs has announced a recall of its frozen two-pack Chicken Bakes, sold exclusively in Iceland stores, after plastic material was discovered in some of the products.
The 306g packs in question, carrying a best-before date of 19 September 2022, were found to contain pieces of hard, dark-coloured plastic. Greggs has advised customers not to consume the bakes and to return them to their nearest Iceland store for a full refund.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said point-of-sale notices would be displayed in all Iceland stores selling the product, explaining the reason for the recall to customers and telling them what they should do if they have purchased the affected item.
Greggs emphasised that the recall is only applicable to the two-pack product purchased from Iceland stores and that no other products, date codes or batches are affected.
A Greggs notice issued by the FSA said the manufacturer was “very sorry” for any inconvenience caused and advised anyone with queries to contact the company’s customer care department.
“The safety of our food is of paramount importance and we take all issues regarding the production of our food extremely seriously,” a Greggs spokesperson told British Baker.
