Danish bakery Ole & Steen has expanded its estate to 20 sites with a new location in London.

Located on Battersea’s Northcote Road, the pet-friendly bakery has seating for 47 and will serve the bakery’s full menu featuring freshly baked Danish bread, including three different types of rye loaf, and authentic Danish loaves such as Skagen (a wholegrain loaf with wheat, wholegrain wheat and rye flour, covered in chia, durum and sunflower seeds) and Ølander (a wholegrain loaf with biga sourdough and a Nordic protein rich ølander wheat). In addition, salads and sandwiches will be served alongside a selection of sweet treats including the bakery’s bestselling cinnamon social.

The bakery will be open seven days a week from 7:30am-9pm.

“Opening our 20th store is a huge milestone for us,” said Ole & Steen managing director Lee Nixon. “We look forward to finally being able to offer southwest shoppers and locals a daily dose of hygge happiness at our new Northcote Road Ole & Steen site. We pride ourselves on our true Scandinavian feel and authentic, high quality, delicious baked goods which we are now bringing across the capital.”

To mark the new opening, Ole & Steen offered the first 50 paying customers a chance to choose from a series of lucky envelopes containing various prizes including a ‘Guld Kort’ (gold card – worth £600 for a year’s supply of Ole & Steen treats), free hot drinks and free social slices. It also hid 20 bunches of Marguerite Daisies (Denmark’s national flower) in streets and parks around the new bakery. Anyone who found the flowers received a whole cinnamon social to share with friends and family, simply by bringing the flowers and card in-store.

Ole & Steen has expanded at pace over the past few years, growing from 13 stores at the start of 2021 and climbing up the ranking of British Baker’s Bakery Market Report.
