Former Baking Industry Award winner Amelia Nutting has contributed to her first book, Step-by-Step Cake Decorating, with fellow cake decorator Karen Sullivan.
The owner of Shuga Budz, the Wolverhampton-based cake decorating company, Nutting was awarded Celebration Cake Maker at the Baking Industry Awards (BIA) 2010.
Published by Dorling Kindersley publishing house, she contributed alongside Asma Hassan, owner of The Sugared Saffron Cake Company, and Sandra Monger, BIA Celebration Cake Maker 2012, based in Bath.
Commenting on its release on 1 October, Nutting said: “I was contacted last Christmas by Karen when she was looking for someone to help make a cake decorating book. She had been following my career and said that I was top of her list, which was just the nicest thing. I was so excited!”
Every cake recipe in the book, which is 256 pages long, were created by Nutting, Hassan and Monger by the end of March this year.
“Before Step-by-Step was released I was also asked to contribute to another book of children’s cakes by DK,” added Nutting. “I loved doing it, so it’s fab to be asked again.”
Containing 20 projects by Nutting, Hassan and Monger, the book covers piping, stencilling, cutting and painting, as well as how to create flowers and hand-model characters.
Key ingredients, such as buttercream, royal icing, flower paste and marzipan, are featured, accompanied by a Cake Basics chapter.
