A Greggs driver handed out free doughnuts and cakes to stranded drivers as Storm Emma caused major travel disruption across the north of England.
The driver, Jon Gowing, got caught in a traffic jam on the A1 motorway near Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland and decided to hand out supplies to drivers who had been stranded for up to 12 hours.
Singer of indie band The Pigeon Detectives, Matt Bowman, posted images of Gowing handing out doughnuts and cakes on his Twitter handle, with his friend Les Goff helping the driver deliver the products across the motorway.
Goff described the moment as the “best traffic jam he’d ever been in”.
Greggs paid tribute to Gowing’s generosity and described him as a “shining example” of how the business operates.
“We are incredibly proud of Jon and his act of kindness in what must have been a very tough situation for him and all the other poor people stuck on the A1 in this cold weather,” said Greggs group people director Roisin Currie.
“We hope his kind gesture was able to help make everyone’s day a little bit better. Well done Jon.”
