A commemorative cake has been presented to the Queen for her Diamond Jubilee at the military Parare & Muster at Windsor Castle.
The three-tiered cake was baked by the Defence Food Services, weighing 90kg and consisting of a hexagonal base, two square upper layers and topped with a hand-painted pastillage sugar crown.
Yorkshire manaufacturing firm Invicta Bakeware was specially commissioned by the military to produce the tin to house the base of the commemorative cake.
With a traditional white royal icing finish, the bottom layer of the cake is hand-painted with images of the royal residences – Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Balmoral, Sandringham, Clarence House and Holyrood Palace. The second layer depicts the emblems of the Coronation and Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees; and the top layer has the tri-service badges reflecting the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
