Students from Leeds have won a competition which will see their design for a Subway sandwich sold to the public.
The Mexicano Sub, a six-inch roll filled with a mix of salad, chicken breast and Subway’s Southwest Sauce, was designed by Lily Hemsley, Molly Moor, Helen Tomlinson, Neve Booth and Sophie Walker from Guiseley School in Guiseley, Leeds. It will go on sale at Subway in Guiseley today until 5 June.
The Subway Entrepreneur competition was a collaboration between Subway franchisee Ian Dawes, Guiseley School and charitable organisation Young Enterprise. A class of 30 pupils from the school took part in the challenge, which required them to design a sub from a set list of ingredients, work out costings and profits, and create a marketing plan.
Dawes hopes to run the competition with other local schools in the near future and eventually take it across the country.
Last month Boris Johnson met staff at the Uxbridge branch of Subway to talk about key issues affecting the food industry.
