Chilled home bakery supplier BakeAway has achieved its target of 100% fully sustainable and segregated palm oil across its range.
Supplied by Liverpool-based New Britain Oils, Brian Homewood, managing director, said all 24 products in BakeAway’s range will be produced using palm oil.
Homewood said: “We take responsible manufacturing very seriously and, where possible, we will always use sustainable and locally sourced ingredients. Production of sustainable and segregated palm oil isn’t as widespread as we would like, but we’ve been working hard since we launched BakeAway to find a quality source for our products.”
According to BakeAway, the business’ pastry ingredients have low food miles, and the majority of its flour is milled within 20 miles of its Northampton site.
Adam Thomas, head of bakery sales at New Britain Oils, added: “We are delighted that BakeAway chose New Britain Oils as its supply partner and that we were able to help them achieve their sustainability targets.”
Launched in 2012, BakeAway said it was “continuing its drive to become the UK’s No. 1 chilled pastry supplier”, and has increased turnover from £2.4m to £7m in one year.
Homewood said: “All of our products provide convenient, great-tasting home baking solutions and we are confident they are adding value to the home baking category.”
