Finsbury Food Group’s chief executive Dave Brooks has been elected chair of the National Skills Academy Bakery Steering Group. Brooks was elected at the group’s second meeting on 7 July.

The steering group’s next priority is to elect a training provider to operate as the Bakery Academy ’Champion’. Potential candidate organisations will be able to apply and, if shortlisted, will be invited to attend the August meeting. In September, the steering group will turn its attention to reviewing the core bakery training available to the industry, to check that it meets the needs of all sectors of the industry.

The government launched the National Skills Academy last year to help address training and recruitment problems within British industry. Skills academies for industries such as ready meals are already in place.
