M&S publicly mocked over vitamin D bread advert

Marks & Spencer has been trending on social media over an advert for its vitamin D-enriched bread.

The advert stated ‘Putting the D in Bread’ - which the younger generations and urban-dictionary savvy customers found highly amusing, after associating ‘the D’ with a penis.

Twitter, as social media so often does, erupted into conversation about the advert.

While some users questioned whether the advert was a purposeful publicity stunt:

M&S had very little to say on the matter: “We recently became the first retailer to add vitamin D to all of our bread to help customers get more vitamin D in their diet.”

A bit of a cock-up or genius publicity stunt - the advert has definitely grabbed some attention.
