Greggs grows

Greggs has opened a new shop in Ravensthorpe Retail Park, in Yorkshire, as part of the Ravensthorpe regeneration scheme. More than £100,000 has been invested in the new site, which has created 10 new jobs in-store. It is the third Greggs shop to open in the area.

Sweet bakery sales

A new report, ’Bakery & Confectionery’ from Food Manufacture Market Reports, says that, between 2002 and 2007, the sweet bakery market grew by 0.3% in volume and 3.8% in value. Frozen cakes and pastries outperformed the market, growing by 4.8%. But the sweet bakery market will continue to lose share of all food expenditure, down to 5.2% (from 5.3% in 2007) by 2012. Britvic takes flight

Britvic has signed a new deal with Ryanair to supply soft drinks onboard the budget airline’s 1,000 daily flights. The new five-year deal will allow Britvic to continue its long-standing relationship with Ryanair.

Robotics centre opens

Europe’s only centre for Food Robotics and Automation (CenFRA) has opened in Doncaster, Yorks. CenFRA is a not-for-profit business, offering independent advice on the wide variety of automation systems available - some starting at less than £20,000. The business will also provide seminars and skills training days and is encouraging all businesses to engage with it. For more details, see pg 30.

Crisp deal

Yorkshire based Seabrook Crisps has been chosen as the official crisp of The Yorkshire County Cricket Club. The crisp firm also plans to launch a new range of flavours to complement its existing range.
