Coffee Republic and Teenage Cancer Trust have teamed up for a nationwide fundraising partnership, with the launch of a signature cupcake. Proceeds from the cupcake, sold in Coffee Republic outlets, will go towards improving the lives of young people with cancer.
Graduate grants
Business support organisation The Food and Drink Forum has joined with graduate recruitment expert HotProspects in a two-year project to offer grants to small and medium-sized food and drink companies in the East Midlands, aimed at helping with the cost of recruiting a graduate, either for specific projects or for permanent placements. Grant funding of £1,000 per business is available for a limited period.
River Cottage demos
Channel 4 ran a series of River Cottage short films focusing on different aspects of bread-making this week. In a series of five-minute ’bites’, River Cottage bakers offered step-by-step guides to baking homemade bread, including demonstrations on soft white rolls, oat caks, doughnuts and sourdough.Exports slow
Exports of bread and savoury biscuits fell by 9% and 9.7%, respectively, in the first half of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009, according to research from Leatherhead Food commissioned by the Food and Drink Federation. However, foreign sales of sweet biscuits and cakes rose 6.6% and 9.8% respectively.
