Bake-off supplier Mantinga is on track to report a turnover of £1.8 million to £1.9m for the year to August 2006, as it continues to expand.

The company, which bakes its range in a craft bakery in Lithuania, is set to break into profit by Easter, sales director Chris Riley told British Baker.

Mantinga, which is now in its second year of trading, has built distribution throughout

the UK and Ireland, through wholesalers and to delis and farm shops, he reported.

Dumfries-based Juniper Fine Foods is now distributing Mantinga’s range to its customers in Scotland and Ireland. Mantinga also expects to sign a deal to supply a second major hotel company, after recently agreeing a contract with Holiday Inn, he said. However, the firm has pulled out of a retail trial at a former Little Chef site in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire (British Baker, July 1, pg 5). It still supplies the shop, but is no longer baking on-site, after finding the venture unsuccessful.

Mantinga now has 13 staff but plans to double that number over the next 18 months.
