Warrens Bakery has unveiled its inaugural venture in the train travel market with the opening of a store at Bath Spa station.
Situated on platform one of the UK’s busiest two-platform station, the new outlet brings the bakery chain’s total estate to 42, currently spanning Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, and South Wales. It has also created eight new jobs for local people.
Warrens previously announced expansion plans over the summer, along with the continued rebranding of existing stores. It also operates a shop in Gatwick Airport as well as Peterborough, Cambridge and Cullompton services (the latter location enjoying success from a recent refurbishment).
The continued expansion showcases a remarkable turnaround from its Company Voluntary Agreement, which began in 2019 and was completed at the start of this year.
The bakery business produces a handcrafted range of hot breakfast rolls, morning pastries, hot savouries, fresh sandwiches, and cakes.
“The new opening marks a significant milestone for us, as Warrens Bakery ventures further into the travel sector and further East,” said Louise Moye, marketing director at Warrens Bakery.
“It also provides us with a great opportunity to bring the warmth and aroma of our freshly baked goods together with great coffee to the bustling heart of the Bath community, in a convenient way. Bath Spa station is a bustling travel hub bringing people together from all walks of life and we look forward to becoming a part of people’s daily routines, commuters’ journeys or as a treat for visitors in the area exploring the beauty of Bath,” Moye added.
Last month, it rolled out a digital rewards app to help it better understand its customer base.
Also recognising the opportunities for bakery sales at UK railways was travel-hub foodservice specialist SSP Group, which launched its new store concept, Café Local, a few weeks ago.
