Bakery ingredients manufacturer Dawn Foods UK and Ireland is on the lookout for its 2026 student ambassadors.

Applications are welcomed from those who are currently studying for a bakery degree or level four bakery qualification or working as an apprentice in the baking industry.

The supplier said the people who are selected will gain valuable hands-on work experience with the company during their studies. There will be the chance to demonstrate their creativity in recipe development using Dawn products and find out more about new product development. Ambassadors will also help with content for Dawn’s editorial and digital campaigns too, with past ambassadors creating blog posts for the firm’s website and featuring in articles on British Baker.

“The Dawn Student Ambassador Programme has been running for more than eight years and is part of our on-going commitment to nurturing new talent in the industry,” explains Jacqui Passmore, marketing lead West EU & AMEAP at Dawn Foods.

“It is a varied programme and a great way for students not only to gain valuable insight into bakery manufacturing but to get their name noticed in the wider bakery industry too. In turn, Dawn benefits from the fresh, on-trend ideas that the students have and we really enjoy having different students as part of the team each year.”

Passmore, who is also president of the Alliance of Bakery Students & Trainees (ABST), added that the firm is looking for ambassadors who are passionate about the baking industry as well as new ideas and trends in the market.

Previously, Dawn Foods chose its student ambassadors from those studying at University College Birmingham (UCB) but in 2025 it opened up applications to those from other bakery colleges as well as ABST members. As such, this year’s cohort comprised Jordan Young who is studying at Nottingham Trent University, Soraya Akbari at Cardiff Metropolitan University, and Sarah Farrow from UCB.

Explaining why she applied for the 2025 programme, Farrow said “it seemed a great opportunity to get my name known into the industry as well as to give me a better understanding of the types of jobs available in food manufacturing”.

“The opportunity has really helped me to develop ‘soft skills’, such as communication, video editing, and blog writing while working on recipe development. This has encouraged me to have confidence in my ideas and to work with new ingredients. Professionally I have learned about the dynamics of the bakery industry, which has been invaluable,” Farrow added.

The deadline for applications is 31 October 2025 and those interested in applying should do so by reaching out to Passmore via the ABST email: abst.contactus@gmail.com.
