Cheshire-based pie and pastry maker Wrights has this week rolled out to Tesco stores across the UK.
In the first national branded retail listing for a Wrights product, the retailer will be stocking the manufacturer’s Chicken Balti Pies in 240 stores for three weeks.
With a naan bread-inspired pastry base, cumin seed-garnished puff pastry lid and a balti curry filling, the pie has been fan favourite in Premier League football grounds across the country for more than 10 years, said Wrights.
The pie will be available for a promotional period of 22 February to 14 March, which includes British Pie Week (7-13 March), at a special price of £3.50 for two pies.
“Wrights Chicken Balti Pies are a real favourite, and we are delighted to bring our historic brand and our decades of pastry perfection to a national audience for the first time in our company’s 96-year history,” said Wrights commercial director Helen Bowyer.
“Our high street bakeries operating across Stoke-on-Trent mean we’re a real staple locally and we’re excited to now be sharing our pastry expertise and our generous fillings with the rest of the nation.”
Wrights last year secured a listing with M&S comprising year-round specials as well as seasonal items such as a British Beef Bourguignon & Dauphinoise Pie.
Originally formed in 1926, Wrights is based in Crewe where it employs more than 500 staff at its headquarters and factory, manufacturing savoury products (including pies, pastries and quiches), cakes and ready meals for restaurant brands, foodservice distributors and independent bakers. The company also owns the bread brand Sheaf Street Bakery and vending machine operator Urban Bistro, as well as 15 Wrights bakery stores across north west England.
In December 2021 it became part of The Compleat Food Group, which has just appointed its first chief people officer.
