Asda has claimed to be the first supermarket to roll out vegan mince pies.
Available now, the vegan mince pies cost 89p for a box of six and are said to be the first to carry the Vegan Society Trademark.
The launch follows Tesco’s announcement that it is enhancing its vegan offering during the festive period, with the unveiling of its Turmeric Spiced Cauliflower Wellington wrapped in puff pastry.
Asda predicted that 18 million of its vegan mince pies would be consumed this Christmas.
“This festive season, Asda is proud to announce we now offer mince pies that are suitable for vegans and have been accredited by the Vegan Society,” said Asda bakery product developer Ciara Loker.
“At Asda, we are committed to innovation and developing the best-quality products that can be enjoyed by everyone.”
