Independent chain Cornish Bakery has unveiled a new collaboration with Origin Coffee.
The partnership is said to bring together two pioneering companies united by craft, provenance, and a shared belief and commitment to Cornwall, at a time when they both continue to expand nationwide.
It is estimated that five million cups of coffee will be served across Cornish Bakery’s UK-wide estate, currently at 73 shops. Recent openings include in Hereford, Worcester, Woodbridge, Exeter, and Ashford’s McArthurGlen designer shopping outlet, with several more in the pipeline for 2026 as it pursues a 400-site target announced last year.
“Working with Origin, a business that shares our values and commitment to quality, allows us to deliver a high-quality coffee experience for the millions who visit our bakeries each year,” commented Cornish Bakery founder Steve Grocutt.
Origin Coffee founder Tom Sobey said that working with Cornish Bakery felt like a “celebration of where we come from and what we stand for”. He added it was ”incredibly special to see two Cornish-born brands supporting each other while bringing exceptional coffee to customers across the UK”.

Cornish Bakery opened its first shop in Mevagissey in 1994, while Origin Coffee was established ten years later in Portleven. In championing world-class coffee over the past two decades through a comprehensive approach to sourcing, roasting, and education, Origin Coffee has grown to operate eight shops across the UK and says it is now Europe’s leading speciality coffee roaster.
Cornish Bakery’s commitment to keeping investment in its home county wherever possible extends into food as well. It recently expanded its egg supply deal with Cornwall-based St. Ewe Eggs (which achieved B Corp status last year) and also sources ethical chocolate from Rio Nuevo.
The quality of coffee was found to be a major factor in which bakery outlet consumers choose, as noted by 81% of respondents to a survey conducted by private-label coffee roaster Lincoln & York last year. Several bakery brands have announced new coffee partnerships in recent months, including pretzel specialist Auntie Anne’s, sandwich firm Which Wich, and Midlands chain Birds Bakery.
