Finsbury Food Group is expanding its Mary Berry supermarket range with the launch of bundt cakes.

The NPD, which comes in two variants and is inspired by Berry’s signature recipes, comprises:

  • Lemon sponge cake with a lemon icing, lemon curd drizzle and hand decorated Belgian white chocolate curls
  • Chocolate sponge cake with a chocolate icing, hand decorated with Belgian dark and white chocolate.

Both have an rsp of £4 and will be available online and in Sainsbury’s stores from 1 September and Tesco from 6 September.

The cakes meet growing demand for ‘crafted treats that can be shared with loved ones’, according to Finsbury, which added that the cake market was worth £978m [IRI 52 w/e 19 June 2021].

The Mary Berry cake range, inspired by recipes from the baker’s cookbooks, first hit supermarkets in April 2017. It is now worth more than £3.7m, said Finsbury, and includes a Celebration Rose Cake, Chocolate & Orange Loaf, and bestselling Lemon Yoghurt Loaf Cake.

“After investing time and resource into creating these new and innovative products, we are confident that our much-loved Mary Berry cake range will continue to not only meet but exceed the high expectations of consumers and customers alike,” said Thomas McInally, brand manager at Finsbury Food Group.

“After already experiencing much success through our previous collaborations, and with the strength of the Mary Berry brand, we are certain that the new Bundt cakes will once again showcase the market-leading expertise and the high quality products Finsbury and Mary Berry are known for producing together.”

Finsbury has several lucrative licenses as part of its business, including a recent collaboration with vegan brand Bosh! and a long-standing partnership with Thorntons.
