Kara, the foodservice arm of Finsbury Food Group, has relaunched its doughnut range, which includes the addition of a new variant.
Available from 24 May, the range now includes a mini chocolate doughnut. It joins sugared ring, sugared jam, sugared chocolate, mini jam and jumbo jam doughnuts – all of which have had their recipes updated, which Kara said has improved the softness and flavour.
Each case of the new mini doughnuts will include paper bags so retailers can offer the product as a grab-and-go option, allowing operators an alternative way to merchandise the product.
The update comes ahead of National Doughnut Week, which takes place from 11-18 May. Sponsored by CSM Bakery Solutions, the week encourages bakers, cafés and other businesses to raise money for charity The Children’s Trust through the sale of doughnuts.
“We’re always looking for ways in which we can enhance our ranges and, with National Doughnut Week coming up, it was a perfect opportunity to relaunch our much-loved doughnut range. We feel that with the additional chocolate flavour, the collection is now complete,” said Jane Olney, commercial director at Kara.
Doughnuts make up 4.3% of sweet bakery purchases in the UK, added Kara, with over a quarter of them purchased as a treat.
