The big three bread brands, plus McVitie’s biscuits have graced The Grocer magazine’s list of Britain’s 100 biggest grocery brands, with Warburtons taking the number two spot.
Following Coca-cola at number one, Warburtons earned the silver medal for its £715.1m sales figure for the year ending 3 January 2015.
According to the list, the brand saw £30m wiped off its sales value in the past year, but will be making a comeback this year in what it has called “the biggest-ever marketing campaign in bakery, if not the entire food industry”.
Another bakery brand to make the top ten is McVitie’s at spot number six, with a £496.6m sales total for the year, followed by Kingsmill at number 10 (£371m) and Hovis close behind at number 12 (£350.7m).
Despite Hovis coming bottom in the rankings out of the three major bread brands, the list said it was the only one in volume growth.
Other brands to make the list included Walkers (3), Cadbury Dairy Milk (4) and Birdseye (5).
The list was compiled using Nielsen’s Scantrack service, which monitors weekly sales.
