A horde of bakery players have made BB’s sister title The Grocer’s 2014 Rich List.

A total of nine figures have made the top 100 in the list, which is topped by The Walton Family, who own Asda and Walmart.

Owners of Associated British Foods, which owns Allied Bakeries, makes number four on the list with a worth of £7.3m. The family also owns the Selfridges Group, and retailer Primark.

In the top 25, stand Sir David Samworth and family, owners of Samworth Brothers, and The Warburton family at Warburtons, who are joint 22nd on £500m. Both companies have seen profits soar from 2012.

Luke Johnson at Patisserie Valerie takes the spot at 44, with a worth of £200m, with Joe Walker and family at Walkers Shortbread close behind.

Other bakery figures in the top 100 include Julian Metcalfe of Pret A Manger/Itsu (61) and Sinclair Beecham of Pret A Manger (76), Jonathan and Lesley Wild of Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate (62) and Ranjit Singh and family of 2 Sisters (64).

The list has been compiled by Phillip Beresford, who used the same methods he used for creating the Sunday Times Rich List for the last 26 years.  It is the first Rich List to be printed by The Grocer, and includes names from farmers to supermarket bosses.
