Pie brand Fray Bentos is to launch its first-ever vegetarian pie next month.
The Vegetarian Balti pie is designed to be cooked in the Fray Bentos tin and is ready in 25 minutes. It is filled with potato, onion, red pepper, tomato, carrot and peas, and topped with puff pastry.
Priced at £1, for a limited time, the pie will be available to purchase nationwide from Morrisons and B&M stores from March.
“We have seen huge demand recently for vegetarian foods, which we’re happy to respond to,” said Lorraine Rothwell, European marketing director of Baxters Food Group, owner of the Fray Bentos brand.
“Meat lovers needn’t worry – we’ll never ditch our famous steak pies and puddings, but this means everyone can get a taste of that famous Fray Bentos home-cooked pastry.”
Fray Bentos tinned Steak & Kidney pies were first sold in supermarkets in 1961. Since then, the range has expanded to include options such as the Chilli Beef Pie, Chicken & Bacon Pie and Meaty Puds.
