Orée to open further sites after £425k funding drive

French-style London bakery business Orée is set to open two new sites in the capital after raising £425,000.

The business plans to use the funding to open its next shop in Covent Garden and is due to develop a fourth in London Bridge later in the year.

Orée, which opened its first site in Fulham Road in March 2016 and has a second in Kensington High Street, aims to bring “a taste of the boulangeries and patisseries of rural France to London”.

The funding was raised through Angel Investment Network (AIN), an online platform that connects angel investors with start-up businesses.

AIN said the combination of Orée’s high-quality product offering and high-end, high-footfall locations across London made it attractive to AIN’s network of investors.

According to AIN data, food and beverage was the second most popular category among angel investors in the UK last year. Software was the most popular.

“Orée was of strong interest to our investors, with its offering of a premium, authentic French patisserie to a market that is increasingly captivated by continental cuisine,” added AIN director Xavier Ballester.

“It satisfies several consumer trends that have characterised the UK casual dining market in the past couple of years, including ‘premiumisation’ and a concern for provenance.”
