Co-op is offering its members 50% off its loose in-store bakery (ISB) products from 6pm.
Designed to help the business reduce food surplus, the ‘Too Good To Waste’ scheme applies to all unsold unpackaged/loose Co-op ISB items, including croissants, baguettes, rolls, and Danish pastries.
The retailer said the scheme recognises that many Co-op members buy baked goods later in the day, whether for an evening treat or to top up the bread bin at home.
“As a convenience retailer, we know that we’re there for those little shops at the end of the day,” explained Co-op buyer Charlotte Waring.
“Our Too Good To Waste initiative is a simple way to help our members save while also reducing food waste – so everyone can enjoy delicious bakery treats and do their bit for the planet. Whether it’s a croissant, cinnamon swirl, or a classic bread roll, there’s something for everyone to love at half price.”
Shoppers pay £1 to become a Co-op Member and get that money back with their first shop. Membership benefits include discounts on staple products, and personalised offers.
In-store bakery has been a focus for the retailer in recent months, with Co-op adding ISB products to its meal deal line-up. The 12-week trial scheme, which has been run across Co-op stores nationwide, features items including croissants, Danish pastries and the recently launched Cinnamon Cruffin croissant and muffin hybrid.
Co-op’s standard meal deal includes a main, side, and drink for £3.50 for members, and £4 for non-members. Its premium meal deal includes a main, side and drink for £5 for members, and £5.50 for non-members.
The move, according to the retailer, is to drive frequency of shop and meet growing demand for on-the-go meal solutions beyond lunchtime with a particular focus on breakfast.
