West Yorkshire-based equipment suppliers Penmann Climatic Systems and Newsome have announced a strategic merger.
Penmann is a provider of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions to the food processing and manufacturing sectors, including plant bakeries, with a head office in Otley town to the north of Leeds. Meanwhile, Newsome is a specialist in temperature and humidity control and operates out of a 30,000 sq ft facility in Elland, near Huddersfield.
The move is said to combine the strengths and expertise of both companies to offer enhanced temperature control and dehumidification solutions under a single group structure across a wider variety of commercial sectors. Integration of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies will help drive innovation, resulting in more efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions for both purchase and rental, it noted.
In addition, the combined Penmann and Newsome workforce is set to benefit from shared knowledge, training, and development opportunities, fostering a more dynamic and skilled team and creating a stimulating work environment that encourages professional growth and career advancement.
Newsome’s Group MD Richard Metcalfe, who has a career in process cooling and the HVAC marketplace that spans more than three decades, claimed the merger will create a “powerhouse” in the food industry. “Together, we will be able to provide unparalleled sales, service and innovation, ensuring that our clients receive the highest quality sales and rental solutions to meet their unique needs,” he commented.
A number of industrial bakeries in the UK have Penmann equipment installed, including those run by firms such as Pladis, Bakkavor Desserts, Burtons Biscuits, and Lantmännen Unibake. Newsome has worked with Greggs, Border Biscuits, Wholebake, and Hollands Pies to name a few.
While there have not been many UK bakery mergers of late, there have been a fair few acquisitions including Prima Bakeries Group purchasing biscuit specialist Furniss of Cornwall, AB Mauri UK&I buying bakery mix supplier Romix Foods, and Regal Foods expanding its chilled desserts portfolio with Love Cheesecakes.
