Foodservice pre-mix specialist Middleton Foods has begun the £4m expansion of its existing manufacturing facility in Willenhall, West Midlands.

Around 8,400 sq ft of new space is being added to the factory’s current footprint across four floors, linking to its dedicated allergen control production area. It will incorporate a state-of-the-art NPD kitchen designed and custom built by bespoke kitchen equipment supplier Qook! by KFE.

The site development has been designed with sustainability in mind, and includes a rainwater harvesting system, solar energy, and electric vehicle charging points. It will also house a dedicated presentation suite and photography studio, which will provide Middleton Foods with the opportunity to enhance its customer experience amongst partners in the bakery, butchery, fast food, foodservice, and food manufacturing sectors.

The company said its customers will be able to fully immerse themselves in its offering and work even more collaboratively to develop new products and solutions.

“We’re excited to have broken ground on the plans for the expansion of our existing factory site here at Middleton Business Park; something we’ve been planning for over a year. It’s great to see it becoming a reality,” commented director Glen Middleton.

The company has seen continued growth in recent years, noted Middleton, who added that the factory expansion forms a significant part of its investment and wider goals for further business growth. “It’s important to our history and the commitment to our business, our incredible team and the local community, as we continue to lead the market in dry mix ingredients,” he said.

Middleton Foods is a family owned and operated business, manufacturing a portfolio of pre-mixes including for bread, pizza, pastry, Yorkshire puddings, cakes, muffins, cookies, brownies, scones, and doughnuts – it also has some gluten-free or vegan-friendly options.

The news comes during a spate of major investments announced by bakery and ingredients suppliers across the country. These include CSM Ingredients’ new £3m UK HQ in Cheshire, ANR-Probake’s new factory purchase in South Wales, Jones Village Bakery’s new £20m roll production line in Wrexham, and Bells of Lazonby £1m site expansion in Cumbria.
