In-store bakery and foodservice supplier Country Choice has launched a new brand, Boston’s Doughnuts, as well as a new range of sourdough products.
The Sysco-owned company said its new doughnuts allow retailers and foodservice operators to bring an element of customisation and premiumisation to their sweet bakery treat offer.
Sold frozen along with indulgent fillings and toppings, they are quick and easy to prepare and help create a point of difference and the opportunity to compete in the premium doughnut sector, noted Country Choice.
The fluffy on the inside, golden on the outside doughnuts are made from an authentic American-style recipe. They can be dunked into classic icing – either white, strawberry or dark chocolate – and then dipped in the likes of chocolate chips, mini beans, fudge pieces or crunchie pieces. Finishing can be applied with a drizzle of glaze, topped with a branded decoration such as Lotus Biscoff, Cadbury, Oreo, McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes, Jammie Dodgers, or Fox’s biscuits.
The core range of decorations is joined by some seasonal specials to help celebrate Halloween, Christmas, pride, and Easter, meaning over 30 different varieties can be created. Doughnuts can be sold individually (rsp: £2.50) or in twin-packs (£4.50) and have a 48-hour shelf life.
In addition to the hand-topped collection, Boston’s also offers a selection of thaw-and-serve options includes three flavours of puddle doughnuts – Caramel, Lemon Meringue, and Speculoos – which have a visible central filling and toppings (rsp: £2.25 for a single, £4.50 for twin-pack).
There’s also a trio of mini Crodots, doughnut-croissant hybrids that feature a light textured, layered and flaky dough (rsp: £2.85 for a triple-pack). These include a dark Crodot with nibbed hazelnuts, a sugared mini Crodot, and a white mini Crodot with chocolate flavoured sprinkles.
Completing the line-up are three filled ring doughnuts (rsp: £1.45 for a single, £2.60 for a twin-pack) that require two hours of defrosting before putting on display. The Caramel Dot comprises caramel flavour custard-filled doughnut, coated in white chocolate-flavoured icing and sprinkled with crunchy caramel pieces. The Strawberry Sprinkle features strawberry filling, strawberry-flavoured icing, and colourful sprinkles, while the Triple Chocolate has chocolate filling, chocolate icing, and chocolate sprinkles.
Retailers can also be provided with Boston’s Doughnuts branded boxes (for both single and twin-packs) as well as pop-up, free-standing display units that hold up to 24 boxes. There are also counter displays, shelf dressing, branded wooden trays (for artisan shops), and stickers to help add a finishing touch to each box.
With UK convenience and forecourt retailers looking to tap into the continued growth of speciality breads – as highlighted in British Baker’s recent sourdough report – Country Choice has expanded its product portfolio with the addition of seven new sourdough lines with rustic appearance and popular flavour profile.
At the heart of the range with rustic appearance are two white sourdough bloomers, one plain (rsp: £2.70, 400g) and one three cheese version featuring Red Leicester, mature white and extra mature Cheddar (rsp: £3.25, 400g).
These are complemented by a Mini Olive Sourdough Bloomer with Kalamata and green olives (rsp: £2.90, 310g), a Mini Onion Sourdough Bloomer with dried red onions (rsp: £2.90, 310g), and a Mini Seeded Sourdough Bloomer with linseed, pumpkin seed and sunflower seeds (rsp: £2.90, 305g). The smaller size is said to help avoid wastage and encourage consumers to try new inclusions.
The range is completed with a handcrafted round white Sourdough Roll (rsp: 95p, 80g) and a white Sourdough Demi Baguette (rsp: 95p, 125g). All products can be baked from frozen, with a day-of-bake shelf life.
For greater visual appeal on shelf, the bloomers are supplied with carrying the message “Oven Baked Here Today”.
