Delicious Ideas Food Group (DIFG) is to distribute The Bakeshed products to contract catering businesses under an exclusive deal.
Based in Cilfynydd, Pontypridd, The Bakeshed produces a range of 23 brownies, shortcakes, oatcakes, and tray cakes. Ten are gluten-free and three are vegan, and the bakery’s Ginger, Lime and Parsnip Slice is both gluten-free and vegan
The business was launched by Will Rhys-Davies as WK Foods in May 2011 after he left university, and initially operated from his parents’ kitchen. In 2016 it rebranded as The Bakeshed.
“Whenever you see vegan or gluten-free on the label, you assume it’s not going to taste very nice [and] that it’s going to have a horrible texture,” said Rhys-Davies. “We really wanted to change that view.
“I knew we were making real progress when our gluten-free chocolate brownie, known affectionately as The Bad-Ass Brownie, won a Great Taste Award in 2017,” he added.
DIFG will be selling The Bakehouse range into contract catering firms across the UK after sampling the products at a trade show.
“Speaking as a vegan, and with my consumer hat on, it’s a struggle to even find bakery products, let alone good ones,” said DIFG foodservice controller Chris White. “So when I tasted The Bakeshed’s vegan offerings, I was ecstatic.”
