Pieminister has expanded the availability of its handheld pies across foodservice channels, as well as a hot-to-go offering in Co-op stores nationwide.
The pies were first introduced in 2024 as a four-strong range of deep-filled pastries designed to be eaten on the go, hot or cold. The range comprises four flavours: British Steak & Peppercorn, Free Range British Chicken Tikka, Cheese & Onion, and the plant-based Banger & Bean, which are supplied in heat-to-eat fully recyclable packaging.
Now, the pies are available as an inflight hot meal on Norse Atlantic Airways flights out of London, and Cathay Pacific flights out of Manchester, at the Stonehenge café, and Salford’s Lowry Theatre in Manchester, as well as at several pub groups.
They have also rolled out at 263 Co-op stores nationwide where they’re available as part of the hot food-to-go offering.
The expanded distribution follows their success as the hot pie of choice at Leeds United FC as well as Braehead Arena, home of ice hockey team Glasgow Clans.
Pieminister said the success of the range stems from addressing key foodservice challenges – speed of service, portion control, and staffing efficiency.
The pies are stored, cooked and served in the firm’s eco-packaging which is made of 100% cardboard like its other pie boxes. However, in this case, the card and glue are heatproof, and the design has a perforated tear line to make it easy to eat the pie from the box as well as vents to let out the steam.
“Meeting the challenges caterers face in a wide range of foodservice situations was absolutely central to our development process for Handy Pies,” said Tristan Hogg, Pieminister co-founder and MD.
“Whether it’s feeding hungry fans during half time at a sell-out stadium or serving passengers from the galley on a packed flight, we needed to create a product that was genuinely handy – not just portable for customers, but operationally simple in situations where every second counts during service peaks.”
Pieminister added that it is currently in talks with several Premier League football clubs as well as other sports and leisure venues across the UK to further expand distribution of the range.
