Greggs is set to launch its first advent calendar, featuring tokens that can be exchanged for items such as sausage rolls.

Each door reveals a tear-off token that can be taken into Greggs shops and swapped for a different treat every day. Products include a Festive Bake, flavoured lattes, mince pie and sausage rolls. Door number 24 reveals a £5 gift card – although some customers will receive a £25 one.

Behind each door is also a festive scene with a Greggs twist, such as someone kissing a Festive Bake under the mistletoe, a Christmas tree adorned with mini gingerbread biscuits and a nativity scene featuring a sausage roll in a manger.

Priced at £24, a limited number of advent calendars will go on sale in selected stores across the UK next Monday (20 November). The contents are worth between £35 and £60, said Greggs, and the vouchers can be redeemed in shops from 1-24December.

“Novelty advent calendars have been around for years, so we thought it was time to take the concept up a notch,” said a Greggs spokesperson.

“Fans won’t be disappointed by what’s behind the doors – there’s a delicious Greggs gift to enjoy every day of the December advent season, from sausage rolls to Christmas sandwiches and of course our Festive Bake. It’s the perfect Christmas gift for every Greggs fan.”

The Festive Bake returned to stores earlier this month as part of the Greggs Christmas menu, comprising sweet and savoury festive treats.
