Chilled and frozen food specialist Summit Foods is recalling various filled wraps because of possible contamination with Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC).
A food alert bulletin posted by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) stated that individual packs of Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap, Snacksters Hoi Sin Wrap, East Street Deli Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap, and Target a Snack Chicken Fajita Wrap with dates up to and including the 5 September 2026 had been recalled by the Preston-based company.
Symptoms caused by STEC can include severe diarrhoea (including bloody diarrhoea), abdominal pain and occasionally haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal, the FSA said. It added that if customers experience these symptoms they should stay away from work, school or nursery until they have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.
In its customer notice, Summit Foods asked anyone who purchased the affected products to dispose of them immediately and provide proof of purchase to sales@summitfoods.co.uk, stating when and where it was purchased, for a refund.
There have been a spate of recalls impacting bakery products this year, with many recalled due to possible foreign object contamination such as Brioche Pasquier’s brioche rolls, Nutella frozen croissants, and Waitrose Chocolate Chip Brioche Rolls. The risk of rodent contamination has also forced the recall of 18 products from West Bromwich-based First National Bakery and 25 branded biscuits and cake slices from Bradford-based bakery manufacturer Saffron Pastries.
Exclusive analysis from British Baker of bakery recalls over the past five years found that undeclared allergens were the most common reason for recalls, followed by contamination of foreign bodies, then microbial contamination, and finally labelling errors.
