Saffron Pastries has recalled 25 of its branded biscuits and cake slices due to potential rodent contamination.

A food alert bulletin posted by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on 16 April shared a product recall notice from the Bradford-based bakery manufacturer.

“We are recalling Saffron Pastries products due to physical contamination from pest activity,” read the notice, adding that it poses a safety risk to consumers.

Consumers are advised to check the batch code and best before dates against the list of recalls (see below) and not to eat any of the affected products. They can return the items to the store of purchase for a full refund, with or without a receipt, it said.

Saffron Pastries has been approached for comment.

According to its website, the company has been catering for the “growing needs of the South Asian consumer” since 2012. In addition to the sweet bakery product types involved in the recall, it also sells a variety of savoury snacks such as Bombay mix and roasted corn as well as Pateesa (Indian-style sweets).

The recall comes just three days after one was issued by FN Bakery in West Bromwich, which was also due to potential rodent contamination. The company recalled 18 of its branded Caribbean-style bread products, including sliced and unsliced loaves, bulla bread, coco bread, corn bread, buns, and items described as Mongoose, Twist, and Wing.
