Nairn’s has extended its portfolio with Coconut & Chia Oat Biscuits that it claims have 55% less sugar than the average sweet biscuit.
The NPD features wholegrain oats with ‘on-trend’ ingredients toasted coconut and chia seeds. Each biscuit contains 1.2g of sugar and 45 calories, while the sugar content per 100g is 13.5g.
By comparison, McVitie’s Digestives contains 2.5g of sugar per biscuit and 16.6g per 100g while Maryland Chocolate Chip Cookies have 3.7g per biscuit and 34.4g per 100g.
They are now available in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and independent stores.
“As sugar continues to be under the spotlight, both from a retailer and consumer perspective, the launch of our new Coconut & Chia Oat Biscuits – the lowest-sugar biscuit within our product range – couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Nairn’s MD Martyn Gray.
“With research showing that 9 out of 10 people in the UK regularly eat sweet biscuits and that sugar content is a main concern for 85% of the population, we’re confident our Coconut & Chia Oat Biscuits will appeal to a wide proportion of the market."
The roll-out of Nairn’s Coconut & Chia Biscuits comes a few weeks after the brand expanded its wider portfolio with a trio of oatcakes, crackers and flatbreads.
