London-based Blackbird Bakery uses Embargo’s platform for its loyalty app

Bakery management software company Cybake and loyalty platform Embargo have each expanded the capability of their systems.

Cybake has launched an extension for its bakery software that enables customers to order custom cakes.

The new module is designed for commercial bakers who offers customisable products such as cakes, doughnuts or cupcakes by providing an online store where customers can place and pay for their orders.

It takes those orders and generates prep sheets for production and decoration in the bakery, as well as packaging and delivery instructions. Cybake said this removes the need for time-consuming and error-prone manual calculations, paper notes, or spreadsheets.

The software tells staff what quantities of each batter to prepare, the sizes and shapes of each layer or tier needed, and the types of filling and frosting patterns, customized toppers, and themed decorations required.

Cybake added that the software will save bakeries time, claiming it takes at least 15 to 20 minutes for a bakery staff member to take a custom cake order in person or on the phone.

The module was unveiled at IBIE, the International Baking Industry Exposition, which took place in Las Vegas this week (14-17 September).

“It was feedback from our customers in the US that led us to address this crucial sector of the commercial bakery market, so there couldn’t be a better place to launch our new custom cake module than at IBIE,” said Cybake MD Ali Lyons, who was internally promoted to the leadership role earlier this year.

Around the same time, Cybake welcomed Vita Mojo as the latest point-of-sale (POS) software to integrate with its bakery management system.

Meanwhile, loyalty, CRM, and online ordering platform Embargo has announced the launch of its integration with commerce and financial services company Square.

Embargo said the collaboration delivers a fully integrated customer engagement solution for hospitality businesses from independent cafés to restaurant chains.

Square sellers can now use Embargo’s loyalty and CRM system to automate customer retention, personalise engagement, and streamline digital ordering through the Square POS.

“Square has long been the go-to solution for the types of hospitality merchants we support, and Embargo is increasingly the platform they rely on to turn casual guests into loyal customers,” said Embargo co-founder Frederick Szydlowski.

“This partnership is a natural step forward. Together, we’re delivering a best-in-class, integrated ecosystem that empowers merchants to drive growth, deepen customer relationships, and maximize revenue across every customer journey.”

Back in May, Embargo won a £350k UK Smart Grant to help develop an AI model for its platform. It confirmed its current customers includes bakery and cafe brands such as Blackbird Bakeries, Two Magpies Bakeries, Hoxton Bakehouse, Soderberg Bakeries, Comptoir Bakeries, Humdingers Bakeries, Knot Preztels, Signorelli Bakeries, and Cafe de Nata.
