Global ingredients marketplace TraceGains has acquired Barnstaple-based software company NutriCalc.

The move sees TraceGains inherit NutriCalc’s nutritional calculation and labelling software, which it said will be integrated into its platform to enrich its offerings in the food and drink industry, including its UK bakery customers.

By focusing on simplifying and automating processes, and integrating AI solutions, TraceGains aims to enhance the supply chain’s ability to tackle new product development and reformulation, while also helping manufacturers deal with global safety, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges, and rapidly evolving consumer preferences.

In turn, NutriCalc now has access to TraceGains’ vast network of over 70,000 supplier locations and a database of more than 500,000 searchable ingredients and items.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, with the acquisition announced during TraceGains’ Together 2024 conference last week.

During his address, TraceGains CEO Gary Nowacki said the NutriCalc acquisition offered a unique opportunity to drive industry advancement by merging top-tier nutritional calculation, reporting, and labelling solutions with TraceGains’ established compliance and product development leadership. “This acquisition counters the trend of overpriced, inferior solutions in the market, offering a superior, integrated solution at competitive prices,” he added.

NutriCalc founder Dr. David Bartley expressed pride in his company’s 30-year journey towards becoming the industry standard in nutrition labelling, with customers across Europe, the US, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

“Our acquisition by TraceGains fuels the development of future innovations to the product and provides an immediate benefit to customers today by linking them to a robust ingredient marketplace and streamlining their processes,” he commented. “The combination of these products is powerful.”

Last October, TraceGains launched new app Sales Hub as part of its Gather platform, designed to empower ingredients suppliers to better promote their products.
