It’s National Cupcake Week – a celebration in which bakers across the country take to social media to share their delicious creations.
The event, which was started by British Baker nine years ago, runs from 17-23 September. Amateurs and professionals alike get involved to show off their skills, with some companies offering discounts and running competitions for customers throughout the week.
Here are some of the highlights so far:
Rock the Bake, Stourbridge
A party clearly isn’t complete without an edible miniature version of the table settings. These vanilla cupcakes are topped with handcrafted edible cutlery, napkins and glasses.
Victoria’s Sponges, Reading
White chocolate and raspberries are a match made in heaven. These cupcakes feature a white chocolate sponge with fresh whole raspberries added just before they go into the oven. The cakes also have a secret raspberry jam centre, and are topped with white chocolate buttercream and raspberry coulis.
Flavourtown Bakery, London
Flavourtown is serving up a fruity delight with its Raspberry White Chocolate creation (left). The Madagascan vanilla cake is filled with raspberry compote and frosted with raspberry and white chocolate buttercream. They’re joined by the Posh Peanut Butter cupcakes (right) made with Skippy peanut butter, Callebaut choc chips and peanut butter mousse buttercream dipped in Belgian chocolate and sprayed gold.
Café Northcote, Blackburn
Head chef Laura Palmer crafted these mint choc cupcakes for the café in Blackburn’s Cathedral Quarter. A chocolate cake is topped with mint frosting and mint chocolate bubbles.
Poppy’s Cupcakes, London
Flamingo fans will surely be flocking to buy these. The London-based bakery is tapping the trend for the fabulous bird on edible treats with these super-cute cupcakes. They’re joined on Poppy’s menu by the ever-popular unicorn cupcakes alongside a host of other flavours.
Vanilla Pod Bakery, Cheltenham
Things are getting fruity at Vanilla Pod Bakery. The Madagascan vanilla sponge cupcakes (left) are topped with fresh fruit, while the birthday cakes are based on the classic dessert, lemon meringue pie. The cakes feature a lemon sponge with lemon curd centre and is topped with torched meringue.
Bad Girl Bakery, Scottish Highlands
The dark chocolate cake (left) has a fresh raspberry baked inside and is topped with Belgian chocolate buttercream. The vanilla caramel fudge (right) is filled with caramel and topped with caramel and Orkney fudge.
SJP Cupcakes, London
These vanilla bean cupcakes are topped with Oreo buttercream then piled high with more crushed Oreos, mini cookies and mini Kinder Buenos.

Hummingbird Bakery, London
For September, Hummingbird Bakery has added a Toffee Apple & Gunpowder Cupcake to its menu in its six London stores. It’s a gunpowder tea-infused sponge – named because the tea looks like gunpowder pellets – with a simmered apple and cinnamon filling topped with toffee cream cheese frosting and a handmade sugar fondant apple.
AJ’s Classic Cakes, near Coventry
This bakery in Balsall Common village has whipped up some allergy-friendly cupcakes to celebrate National Cupcake Week. These vegan, dairy-, egg- and gluten-free carrot cupcakes are topped with frosting and crystallised orange.
